About Anthony Surratt, Artist
As a corporate communications executive in the cable TV and telecom industries for more than two decades, I discovered painting as a welcome creative balance to the strictures of the day job.
Now in post-corporate life, I have happily promoted art from a weekend hobby to my principal focus—working with acrylics, oils and mixed media and primarily in the realms of abstraction and folk art. I add multiple layers of texture, media and color to my paintings, yet it is usually via methods of subtraction—sanding, scraping, wiping, gouging—that their ultimate stories and meanings emerge.
I am principal of Surratt Creative LLC, which encompasses my fine-art work and corporate communications consulting, and serve on the board of directors of Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL), a non-profit organization providing arts, cultural and intellectual enrichment lectures and workshops in the Manchester, Vermont community. I am also an artist member and volunteer at Southern Vermont Arts Center.
